Adolescents recovering from stem cell transplant face difficult social, emotional and physiological challenges. Radiant, in partnership with MD Anderson, sought to develop a program to provide support these patients while promoting advantageous recovery behaviors.
Radiant developed an internet-based, interactive and personalized social intervention. The program utilizes extensive social features and game mechanics to enable interpersonal connection, promote social support, and directly address three key recovery behaviors: hydration, medication and exercise. Representatives from the population were involved in all phases of research and development.
In a study of technology acceptance, stem cell patients reported that the site was easy to use, relevant, and useful in their recovery. Site development continues, with a larger behavioral trial in the works.
